The Secret of Monkey Island

The Secret of Monkey Island is a point and click adventure game published in 1990 by LucasArts and follows the adventures of Guybrush Threepwood who wants desperately to become a pirate. He appears on Melee Island and undertakes tasks set by the three pirate leaders to prove himself worthy. Along the way he meets many friends and enemies, eventually meeting the beautiful governor of the Tri-island area, Elaine Marley.



Guybrush's trials are put on hold when the ghostly evil pirate LeChuck kidnaps Elaine. To save Elaine, Guybrush buys a ship and hastily assembles a crew to save her.

It's no wonder this game spawned four sequels. The adventures of Guybrush Threepwood and Elaine proved to be wildly popular with gamers. Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, The Curse of Monkey Island, Escape From Monkey Island and Tales of Monkey Island are all wonderful games but this is the one that started it all.

I highly recommend you check out this, the first game, but also all the sequels. If you are a fan of retro games, then these are for you. In 2009, LucasArts released a special edition with updated graphics and lots of extras, they did this with LeChuck's Revenge in 2010 too. LucasArts created some fine games back in the day, with Disney acquiring them, it seems that the future is uncertain.
