Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis |
Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (Also known as ARMA) is one of the few games that was revolutionary for Combat simulation gamers when it was released in 2001.
The game relied on a wonderfully realistic combat simulations engine that allowed you to take control of virtually any moving vehicle and fire any weapon known to the army.
It is set on a group of fictitious islands in 1985, the last desperate days of the Cold War and Soviet Union, Everon, Malden and Kolgujev, with Everon and Malden having a US Army presence. When Everon is invaded by an unknown hostile force, which is later revealed is the Soviet army under the command of a mad General Guba.
The storyline is a great one, and the game is considered a classic today, even though Bohemia Interactive remastered and re-released the games as 'ARMA' with updated graphics but there's nothing quite like the classic game of Operation Flashpoint.
The stealth missions are the most exciting as you can play a character who is on his own against an entire army. Or you can fly a plane or helicopter against ground enemies or even fellow air foes.
For those who have already played this game, go ahead and dig it out, it's definitely worth a revisit!
