UK Candy: Cadbury is the Nation's Favourite. |
Aside from the clear absence of most British telly in the states (except on PBS), another thing I find odd is the fact that you can't find British candy in the grocery stores here. In the UK, American candy is in nearly every supermarket, so why not the other way around? British chocolate is scrumptious, after all! Here are 10 British candy bars I'd personally love to see in grocery stores in America.
1. Double Decker (Cadbury)
Double Decker bars were first introduced in the UK in 1976 and quickly gained popularity thanks to its crispy cereal and nougat layers covered in Cadbury Milk Chocolate.A favourite of the wife too!
2. Crunchie (Cadbury)
Crunchie was originally launched in 1929 and have been a firm favourite of the British public since. The delicate honeycomb center covered in milk chocolate is an absolute delight of a bar.
3. Toffee Crisp (Nestle)
Toffee Crisp was first introduced in 1963 and is a delicious chocolate bar filled with chewy caramel and crispy cereals. Tucking into one of these bars is a must and it's a crime Nestle don't manufacture them over in the US. These are my ultimate favourite I think.
4. Milky Bar (Nestle)
Another British stalwart is the Milkybar. Just a thin bar of White Chocolate, this has been a favourite of children since adverts featuring the Milkybar Kid, usually a blond, bespectacled boy in a cowboy outfit, yelling "The Milkybars are on me!" were aired from 1961 onwards. Go on, grab one today!
5. Flake (Cadbury)
Cadbury Flake is a crumbly stick of milk chocolate that is famous for being stuck in soft serve vanilla ice cream cones in Britain, traditionally known as a 99. Also, adverts from the early 90s are much remembered for the woman eating a Flake in the bath rather suggestively. These are perfect for the summer!

6. Wispa (Cadbury)
Wispa is another textured favourite from Cadbury. The chocolate bar disappeared from shelves for a while, prompting a petition to bring it back which was successful. The chocolate is aerated to give it a delicious texture, pick up a Wispa today!
7. Drifter (Nestle)
Nestle's Drifter bar is the perfect blend of caramel, wafer and chocolate. It's two bars of chewy goodness that have been a favourite of Brits for years!
8. Milky Way Crispy Rolls (Mars)
Another classic that is a firm favourite among Brits, Milky Way Crispy Rolls are a little like pirouline cookies but filled with the cream you find in a European Milky Way (The American Milky Way is the same thing as a Mars Bar) and then covered in, you guessed it, milk chocolate. DELICIOUS!
9. Fudge (Cadbury)
Cadbury Fudge has been a mainstay for decades. It's different from American Fudge as it's cream based instead of chocolate.
10. Lion (Nestle)
Lion bars are a crispy wafer caramel by Nestle that are just the ticket. There's nothing really too similar to it in the US (Brits love their wafer candy bars it would seem!) but this is a definitely a snack with a roar!
