Is It Cool To Hate On Something Because It's Popular?

The Beatles haven't been popular with haters since 1966.

Recently, we came across an article that is (surely) tongue in cheek by Buzzfeed about 91 songs being better than anything the Beatles ever did.

But, it does seem there are a group of people out there that love to hate on things simply because they are popular. It mostly seems to happen in the musical world of things. With the latest popular music acts like Ed Sheeran and the recently disbanded One Direction coming under fire from many.

But are people just jumping OFF the bandwagon to try and be different? Or do they have a cohesive argument to back up their opinion? Many would say the former, especially in the case of the Beatles.

The Beatles became popular worldwide in 1964 and with their legions of fans, there was always the ones who derided them for their silly haircuts, accents and clothing. Usually it was the parents of the teenager who was obsessed and of course, the parents were wrong. But when John Lennon's quote in a British magazine about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus was reprinted in the US and taken out of context, the bible belt of the United States went absolutely crazy over it.

Beatle album burnings began to take place and in the following video, you can see the reactions of many from back then.
