TRENDING: Platform Sneakers

To us, the '90s seem like only yesterday.  In reality, the decade that brought us the Spice Girls happened two decades ago already (ugh, we're old).  But, you know the saying: What goes around, comes around.  And it's true, because the big platform sneakers of the '90s are super hot again.  Don't worry, though, these aren't the over-the-top, cartoonish style made popular by the British pop group, but instead, are a much more sophisticated take on the trend.

1.  Sam Edelman Women's Leya Fashion Sneaker
The smooth suede design of these platform sneakers, with fun, faux fur pom-pom details is super now.  These shoes are the ultimate in sophistication, while maintaining comfort.  Perfect for strolling around the city.  They come in an array of colors and while we love this pair, it was difficult to choose.  Be sure to also check out the black and white gingham and port wine styles!

2.  Steve Madden Women's Gills Fashion Sneaker
Speaking of quiet sophistication, this Steve Madden pair in Natural Snake are uber stylish without screaming "Look at me!"  This style will go with absolutely everything in your closet and transition from season to season effortlessly.  A great traveling tennis shoe for it's comfort and easy ability to be pulled on and off.  These also come in an array of colors.

3.  SummerWhisper Women's Striped Canvas Low Top Slip On Sneakers
If you're looking for a slip-on sneaker with a little more height, then this is the one for you.  They're easy, breezy and oh-so cute.  Plus, they'll add a couple of inches to your height!  And affordable!  Did I mention affordable?  Great for back-to-school.  These are a bit more casual than the previous two, but still just as chic, and with black, blue, and red to choose from, how can you go wrong?

4.  STEVEN by Steve Madden Women's Barb Fashion Sneaker
Maybe you're not into slip-on sneakers.  Maybe you like the security of laces and being able to cinch your shoes as tightly around your tootsies as necessary.  Well, if that's the case, may I present to you Steve Madden's Barb Sneaker.  More 1970s, than 1990s, these shoes certainly make an impact.  Think: High Fashion Athleisure.  Of course, they'd make awesome back-to-school sneaks too.

5.  IDIFU Women's Glitter Sequined Low Top Platform Sneakers
We're adding this pair of platform sneakers to the list because, hello?  Glitter!  Okay, so perhaps they're not super sophisticated, but there's no denying their '90s-ness.  These shoes remind us of raves and glow sticks and body glitter and... we'll stop there before its too late.  The point is, these shoes are great fun!  And everyone can use some of that in their lives.

6.  Twisted Women's Olivia Velvet Platform Creepers
Speaking of the '90s, another big trend was crushed velvet.  So, if you're looking to recapture the essence of the decade in one style piece, it'd probably be these shoes.  Navy blue crushed velvet creepers?  Yeah.  We're not sure why, but we're getting major My So Called Life vibes from this pair of sneakers.  Moody and beautiful at the same time.  (Ah, Jordan Catalano.)

7.  ALDO Women's Kerrina
Here's a pair that aren't so much sneakers, as sneaker-like.  Anyway, we like the oxford look of these, so we thought we'd share them with you.  Wear them with jeans or dresses, there's no shoe more versatile than a pair of men's style brogues.  You'll love them if for no other reason than they're shiny enough to see your reflection when you need to reapply your lipstick.

8.  Maxstar Women's Zip Up High Top Canvas Platform Sneakers
These are really the platform sneakers for city girls everywhere.  They're all black, so you don't have to worry about soot from the city streets destroying the look of your shoes, and they go with everything.  While black is usually the color of choice for urbanites, white is always a good alternative.  Wear them with dresses, suits, shorts and jeans.  These will never go out of style.

9. Cape Robbin Metallic Rainbow Platform Lace Up Sneakers
These shoes are so colorful we'd be seriously concerned if you didn't own something that'd go with them.  Just be careful not to choose an outfit that's too busy, or you might risk coming off a bit clownish.  While we genuinely love these sneakers, we really included them for those who are looking to go full "Spice Girl" with the size of their platform.  Just please don't fall off of them.

10.  Y.R.U. Lala Atlantis Hologram Upper Platform Sneakers
Another great option, if you prefer to look like a Spice Girl from the future, rather than one from 1997, are these holographic sneakers.  I mean, come on.  If these don't make you really really really wanna ziazig ah, I just don't know what will, people!  In all seriousness though, I really have no words for just how cool these sneakers are.
