So You Want To Record At Home? Here's What You Need

So, you are a budding musician, or maybe you're a fully seasons professional musician on a budget? You don't want to pay for studio time and a producer so you want to set up your home studio to record your next album. This guy did it in his bedroom and so can you! So, what will you need to get started?

1. A Computer.

It seems everyone has got one of these nowadays, you're probably reading this blog on one of them, and whether it's a desktop or a laptop, you can plug into it and it will record what you sing and play. Generally, pro's prefer Desktop computers as they generally have a higher processing speed and can handle all the inputs. But, if you like to be mobile? Laptops are the way to go. Ideally you want the fastest processing speed, one with 2.5ghz or more will get you what you really need in terms of processing. Many prefer a Macbook Pro to record with, but if you have a PC Laptop, then this one might be your best option.

2. Microphone.

Now, you will need a USB input for your microphone to record onto your computer. If you're on a budget, a good Dynamic Microphone might be just what you need but if you have a little more to spend, get a Condenser Microphone. It's better suited to recording and it's what they use in professional studios too.

3. A Mixing Console.

Now, a Mixing Console is what everyone needs for their mastering and production of finished tracks. There are plenty of cheap basic ones out on the market for what you might need in your home studio.
If you're looking for one that does more, check out this one for more inputs and the best quality mixes.

4. Microphone Stand.

Sometimes you have to record a vocal standing up, you can't do it sitting down, it gives your voice a different sound quality. Having a microphone stand that comes with a Pop filter is an advantage.
Another good thing to have in a microphone stand is a boom swing, so you can maneuver it into tight corners with ease for that perfect vocal recording.
