Poldark: Follow the love triangle of Ross, Elizabeth and Demelza. |
Written by Winston Graham, the novels are set in the late 18th century at the time of the American Revolutionary War. Captain Ross Poldark returns home to his native Cornwall to find everyone thought he had been killed in the war, his sweetheart Elizabeth set to marry his cousin and his estate in ruins. The Poldark novels are a 12 book series which have been adapted by the BBC twice. The first time in 1975 with Robin Ellis playing Ross Poldark, and the most recent adaptation began in 2015 with Aidan Turner as Ross. All the series from the BBC's 1970s adaptation are available to buy by clicking the links and the first two series of the 2010's adaptation are available to buy.
The BBC are spoiling us with the third season of Poldark that has just begun (No shirtless Ross yet, but only one can hope for it in the coming episodes!) but we were treated to a little bit of brooding against the backdrop of the Cornish coastline. If any of you non-Brits are wondering where exactly Poldark is filmed, it is exactly where the books are set; Cornwall. Cornwall is a county in the South West of England. The production team film all over the county at some of the most beautiful locations England has to offer. So, what will you need when travelling around Poldark country??
A Tri-Corner Hat is a must. You really want to feel like Poldark? Get on horseback and ride at full speed to help out a damsel in distress or take a brooding walk along the beach as the waves crash close to you. Better yet, get your scythe out and start cutting through fields of wheat (watch out for Theresa May though, she might trample you).
