Chocolate lovers rejoice! Scientists have invented a new type of chocolate and have called it 'Ruby'. Barry Callebaut, the producer of the pink-hued treat, is the worlds largest cocoa producer and are proclaiming it to be the first new type of chocolate since Nestle unveiled white chocolate with their Milkybar in the 1930s.
But is it available now? It is not. It will hit shelves in about six months the producers say but most likely it will be a treat for the elite. The rich and famous will be indulging in it first and it will become a new fad like sushi or something.
Apparently, the new chocolate has a slightly fruity, berry flavour, which will make it strange to a chocolate lovers palate. Barry Callebaut say the chocolate will satisfy the 'hedonistic desires of millenials'. Do we have hedonistic desires? I love chocolate, but I don't know if I could eat too much of it no matter how much hedonistic desire I may have.
According to insiders, the chocolate is refreshing with a light and creamy texture, so you will be eating one after the other not realizing you're eating chocolate and you CAN eat them without the inevitable groan, clutching your stomach, eyeing that empty box and thinking you can't eat anymore.
I am sure, if Barry Callebaut manage to market this, that Ruby chocolate will be a fine addition to the chocolate family and there will be plenty of recipes that will make use of it.
