Cardiff Foodbank Gets Donation of 50 Year Old Can of Soup
A Welsh food back recently received a donation that set a record; a can of Heinz Kidney Soup that was sold in the 1960s with the price tag still on it. A pre-decimalization price tag, no less! This was soup that was sold when Harold Wilson was still Prime Minister of the UK.
To give a bit of backstory, a food bank in Cardiff receives thousands of donations a week and sometimes it comes across old things from peoples cupboards, such as a package of pasta that was sold in the 1970s.
The amazing thing about this can of Kidney Soup however is that it was discontinued by Heinz 35 years ago. The price is "10d" which is around 10 pence in old money and was brought in with a couple of other canned food items that dated from the 1980s.
Do people rarely clean out their cupboards? Do people really forget a can of soup for 50 years? The best thing about this is that the soup is still in date...just. But we doubt anyone will be eating it any time soon. If you want a good Heinz product, always go for their baked beans.
