Doctor Who - Patrick Troughton - The Second Doctor (1966 - 1969)

The Cosmic Hobo: Troughton as the Second Doctor.
With Patrick Troughton came the Second Doctor. Much different from the grumpy and frail appearing first incarnation, Troughton's Doctor was nicknamed The Cosmic Hobo due to his scruffy appearance. His bumbling manner and clownish ways belied a scheming and mercurial mind.

Troughton's take on the Doctor split the fandom, with many believing him too clownish, but the years have been kind to him, with future Doctors Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Matt Smith all stating that the Second Doctor is their favourite. Matt Smith even stated that the Eleventh Doctor's dress is directly inspired by Troughton's Doctor.

Most of Troughton's episodes from 1966 to 69 were wiped by the BBC, resulting in most of the episodes of his tenure being, quite ironically, lost in time. Fortunately, some remain and you can buy them on DVD.
