This backpack screams early '90s, but in the cutest, and most nostalgic way possible. It's got lots of storage room with one zipper down the middle of the bag and two side pockets, but at 9" high and 6" wide, you'd really only be carrying this out with your friends, rather than to school. Another great bag by T-Shirt & Jeans, and at 13.8" x 11.1" x 5.6", this one may be large enough to carry your school books in. Some of them anyway. (Yeah, we've been to school. We know.) It's also got a back wall zipper compartment and cell phone pocket slots. We love that this one is velvet with floral detailing. It also comes in black. So cute!
3. Betsey Johnson Womens Quilted Winged Heart Backpack
Not certain why this velvet black and white skull backpack is called the "Winged Heart" backpack on Amazon, but nevertheless, we love it. It's moody and magnificent with just enough velvet to fit with the trend, while the backside and adjustable straps are made of faux leather. This mini backpack also features a faux leather, studded bow as a zipper pull. This bag measures 9" x 11" x 4" (WxHxD).
4. VIASA Small Purple Velvet Backpack
You can't beat purple velvet. I mean, come on, purple velvet is the stuff of royalty, people. This bag is quite small, so it is definitely not meant to be used for anything more than a purse, but it's purple, so that's really the main reason for buying it anyway. Carry your makeup bag, cell phone and any other small items you need. The price is right and, did I mention it's purple?

Here's another home run by T-Shirt & Jeans. Why, you ask? Because not only is velvet big for this season, but pom-poms are also very on trend right now. We love the combination of the tan-colored details in the zipper pulls and straps with the light pink velvet. It makes this bag feel very fresh and really brings it into the modern age.
6. Herschel Supply Co. Women's Velvet Dawson Backpack
This Herschel bag is another modern take on the velvet trend. In fact, we don't see anything '90s about this one, except maybe the name? A nod to Dawson's Creek, perhaps? Either way, we love this backpack with its magnetic buckle trim pockets and adjustable straps. It measures 8.75" x 13" x 6" and also comes in "Windsor Wine." Very chic indeed.

While most of the others on this list are more purse than actual, usable school bag, this Jansport backpack is 19" x 15" x 3" of heavy-duty, book-toting space. And, yeah, it's not exactly velvet, but the black zebra stripes are flocked, so we're counting it, okay? Plus, it's really cute with one main compartment, one front compartment, and 2 interior pockets. Back-to-School, done right.
