Travelling Britain: The Highlands
The Highlands of Scotland are, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most beautiful places in the world. I want to preface this by saying I lived in the Highlands as a child and thinking back on that time, it was magical. The mountains, the rivers, the countryside was all as amazing as it looks on the television!
The Scottish Highlands are a very remote part of Scotland, the weather is harsher up there because it's so far north and there aren't many cities up there, mostly small villages like Ullapool and Durness, where Beatles legend John Lennon had family. The traditional capital is Inverness, which has an airport and is as close to a big city as the Highlands have.
Of course, there are freshwater lochs up in the Highlands, the most famous of which is Loch Ness, which attracts thousands of visitors each year from across the world due to the loch being home of 'Nessie', the Loch Ness Monster. Does she exist? You'll have to go there and see if you can spot her!
The glens of the highlands are also perfect for walking and seeing the vistas that this beautiful part of Britain affords.
