Blackadder - A Cunning Comeback?

Rowan Atkinson as Lord Edmund Blackadder in 'Blackadder II'

I have a cunning plan.

Those are the immortal words of Baldrick, Edmund Blackadder's centuries long sidekick and confidant and, in my opinion, just as important as any other historic words that have been uttered.

Blackadder, for those who have been deprived, is an alternate history situation comedy that ran from 1983 to 1989 across four series and several specials. It starred Rowan Atkinson as the title character and Tony Robinson as Baldrick and features exceptional performances from the likes of Tim McInnerny, Hugh Laurie, Miranda Richardson, Brian Blessed, Stephen Fry and Patsy Byrne.

The Fourth series is widely regarded as the best of the Blackadders.

The series is widely regarded as one of the finest and funniest British sitcoms produced by the BBC, with the final series 'Blackadder Goes Forth' being shown in schools all over the country to help in teaching about the First World War.

Many fans have called for a return for the show which last graced screens in 1999 with the special 'Back and Forth' and there has been much talk of a possible fifth series which would maybe take place in the 1960s or the 1980s.

As of writing this, Rowan has revealed there are no plans for any new series. But would it be as good if it came back? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
