A Bear Called Paddington Returns

The Paddington statue at Paddington Station

Paddington the Bear is a favourite of children and adults alike across the world. The adventures of this little bear from deepest, darkest Peru that travelled to London have been thrilling the world for 59 years since he was created by Michael Bond in 1958.

We first met Paddington in the book 'A Bear Called Paddington'. In the first story, he was found on the platform of Paddington station by the Brown family, with a note attached to his coat that said; "Please look after this bear. Thank you." The Browns were persuaded to take him home and they promptly named him Paddington, after the station in which they found him. He got to London as a stowaway from 'deepest darkest Peru', sent by his Aunt Lucy, has a fondness for marmalade sandwiches and is very polite. The books and 1975 TV series follow his adventures in England with the Brown family.

In 2014, the film 'Paddington' was released to commercial and critical success, with Ben Whishaw voicing Paddington and Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Madeleine Harris and Samuel Joslin playing the Brown family. In the film, a ruthless taxidermist (Nicole Kidman) tries to acquire Paddington for her collection and all sorts of crazy hi-jinks ensue. The film is available to own on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Paddington was so popular that there's been a sequel, Paddington 2. The film was released on the 10th November in the UK and a US release date is January the 12th, 2018.

In Paddington 2, the main cast return with a couple of new additions in the form of Hugh Grant and Brendan Gleeson. The plot of this film has Paddington doing several odd-jobs to acquire a very unique pop-up book from Mr. Gruber's (Jim Broadbent) shop but the book is stolen and Paddington and the Browns do all they can to apprehend the thief.
